Yet another rainy foggy morning turned into a bright sunny and warm day! No excursion today. We left the ship after lunch and went into town by shuttle (after a long wait).
These islands are France! This is the last remaining outpost of the French empire in North America. They even use the Euro as currency!
This small town (pop 6,000) looks really tired and neglected. Apparently, the fishing industry is a shadow of its former self. We were told they import everything and export nothing.
The only thing on our list to visit was a church. Very disappointing. It's old and neglected, even tho it appears to be in use. Nobody is caring for it. It did, however, have some beautiful stained glass windows.
We waited in a long line again for the shuttle ride back to the ship.
This was not a good stop!
